Flora________, age 1 mos., b: NY

NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Jan 2007]

From the image, the daughter's name clearly appears to be Flora. Since the census was taken in October of 1850 and Martha Wedge was born in September of 1850 (some have 1849), it would seem that this is her unless a daughter Flora was born and died shortly after this census was taken.

Daniel is also found in the same census on page 146 in the household of his father, Ira Wedge, where he is recorded as a laborer. Both censuses were taken on the same day.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: [Gedcom Database of LaDeane Miller - 2007]

Note from Aunt Luella (Lee Luella Edith Miller Roberts):

The question of Martha Wedge's mother is revealed “mom and dad were separated in 1850 after I was born in Attica”. Cannot read rest of pg. Next pg: “dad (Daniel) wanted to go to Michigan but not mom. My mother finally gave in and left in 1851 with Wally and me.

Removed again to Branch Co., Michigan in 1857 with father, brothers Joel & John. John went to Hillsdale Co. Michigan. Joel to Indiana 1858 to 1869 then Illinois for a year before returning to Michigan in 1872 where he died.

His daughter Ida Elizabeth was born while visiting his father & brother in Harveysburg, Ohio. Family history notes from Martha Wedge, Truman, Cyrus' son, was born in Michigan. The only child born there. The rest were born in Conn. Is this his brother or cousin?

CORNELIA BUCK 1, 2 was born in 1828 in NY. She died after 1851 in Kinderhook, Branch Co., MI. She married DANIEL WEDGE in 1847 in NY.

F ii MARTHA S. IRENE WEDGE OR WEAGE was born on 11 Sep 1850. She died on 13 Jan 1926.

IRA WEDGE [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 was born in 1780 in Rutland, VT. He died in Mar 1861 in Harveysburg, OH. He married DEZIRAH DARLING in 1818 in Middlebury, Genesse, NY.

CENSUSES: [Data provided by LeAnn McRoberts unless otherwise noted.]

1830 - NAPOLI, CATTARAUGUS CO., NY

IRA WEDGE, head of family
2 males age 5 to 10 (Joel and Daniel Wedge)
1 male age 30 to 40 (Ira Wedge)
1 female age 5 to 10
1 female age 30 to 40 (Dezirah Wedge)

NOTES: [LeAnn McRoberts, Jun 2007]

Census records 2 males 5 to 10 years of age. Joel, born 1825, would've been 5, however, if Daniel was in fact born in 1827, he would've only been 3 years of age. Subsequent censuses record Daniel born in 1824, 1826, 1828, 1829 and 1830.

Daniel's age on his Civil War Disability Discharge dated 28 Apr 1862 was 34 which places his year of birth at 1828. No month is known so it is impossible to know where this was before or after his birthday that year.

Not known who the female age 5 to 10 was.

1840 - GENESEE CO., NEW YORK

IRA WEDGE, head of household, age 40 under 50
1 Male, age 5 under 10 (John Wedge)
1 Male, age 10 under 15 (Daniel Wedge)
1 Male, age 15 under 20 (Jack Wedge)
2 Females, age 5 under 10
1 Female, age 10 under 15
1 Female, age 40 under 50 (Dezirah Wedge)

NOTE: [Amended Jun 2007]

I only have 3 sons for Ira Wedge, Joel, Daniel and John (See Additional Notes for 1850 census) and have no names for the daughters but if would appear there were 3 daughters or else relatives. However, in the 1830 census there was 1 female age 5 to 10 and in this 1840 there is 1 female age 10 to 15 which would appear to be the same female.

1850 - ATTICA, WYOMING CO., NY

IRA WEDGE, age 58, occ: farmer, b: VT
Dezire___, age 58, b: MASS
Joel_____ , age 26, laborer, b: NY
Daniel____ , age 24, laborer, b: NY

NOTE: [Amended Jun 2007]

Daniel is also found in this same census with his wife Cordelia and a daughter on page 144, however, he is recorded as 2 years younger.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Jun 2007]

Based on this census, I had initially thought that Ira's first son was called Jack, however, on closer inspection of this image and information received from my cousin, Deane Miller, that son is not Jack but Joel.

Also, son John is supposed to have been married in 1848 and had a daughter but I cannot find them seperated in a census for 1850.

None of the females, other than Dezirah, recorded in the 1840 census are recorded here.
