JOHN MERRIFIELD [Parents] 1 was born about 1795. He died about 1842. He married ANNE RUDE on 17 Apr 1811 in Hardin Co., KY.

ANNE RUDE was born about 1785. She died in 1846. She married JOHN MERRIFIELD on 17 Apr 1811 in Hardin Co., KY.

They had the following children:

  M i SAMUEL MERRIFIELD
M ii JAMES A. MERRIFIELD 1 was born about 1826. He died in 1880.

SAMUEL MERRIFIELD [Parents] 1 was born about 1817. He died on 15 Aug 1865 in New York, NY. He was buried in Cypress National Cemetery, New York, NY. He married HENRIETTA JOHNSON in Nelson Co., KY.

MARRIAGE-YEAR-CONFLICT: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2007]

World Connect database of both Tony & Angela's Roots and OldsReinheart020507 has 1 Jan 1859 as the marriage date for Samuel and Henrietta which is 20 years after the birth of their first child. In fact all of their children we born prior to 1859 which leads me to believe the year is incorrect.

DEATH-CONFLICT: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2007]

World Connect database of both Tony & Angela's Roots and OldsReinheart020507 have the same date of death for Samuel and his wife, Henrietta but place of death for Samuel is New York and place of death for Henrietta is Kentucky which seems odd and possibly incorrect.

HENRIETTA JOHNSON 1 was born on 4 Apr 1817. She died on 15 Aug 1865 in Nelson Co., KY. She was buried in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, New Haven, KY. She married SAMUEL MERRIFIELD in Nelson Co., KY.

M ix JEROME L. MERRIFIELD 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 was born in Jun 1859 in Rosstown, Marion Co., VA. He died after 1920 in Most likely Marion Co., VA.

SIBLING:

Based on the 1860 and 1870 censuses, it appears that Jerome and Andrew were twins.

SPOUSE:

Jerome L. Merrifield married (1) Eliza Anne Satterfield 2 May 1878 in Marion Co., WV. She was b. abt 1859 probably in Marion Co., VA; (2) Ella J. McClelland 1 Nov 1887 in Marion Co., WV. She was b. abt 1854/1855 in Marion Co., VA; (3) Mattie J. b. abt 1869 (SEE DETAILS FOR 1920 CENSUS BELOW).

DEATH-CONFLICT: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2005]

From the cemetery transcription of Jereme Merryfield's headstone in the Merryfield Cemetery in Marion Co., WV, he died 10 Jun 1850, age 17 years, 1 month and 25 days. He is listed as the son of Rawley and Matilda Merryfield.

However, Jerome is recorded in both the 1860 (age 2) and 1870 (age 12) as well as the 1900 (age 41), 1910 (age 51) and 1920 census (age 61) censuses so this is highly unlikely.

Further confirmation comes from the SSDI recording the same date of birth and that he died 5 May 1990.

The male age 4 was recorded as Jno but it seems likely he is son Creath and the female, age 11 months, recorded as Babay is most likely daughter Geneva but had not yet been named.
