"The William Jefferson, or Jeff as he was called are one and the same. My grandfather, who built a family home at 925 Sunset Ave, Dallas (this is the address it later became ) was farm land at first and encompassed quite a few hundred acres - was in the suburb of Oak Cliff, in Dallas . He later sold most of the land and only owned about 4 city Lots at this address with 3 houses including the one he lived in.
Actually, he did have property in Denton and they lived there some. Mainly this was so their older son John Jefferson (Jay) who was born in 1889 could go to college at North Texas University, some of the other sons did also and the younger ones went to elementary or high school there at that time.
Grandma mostly stayed there during the week and would go home one weekends or else Grandpa would come up there. Thus the 2 censuses in both towns.
My grandfather's father was John Welsh Merrifield, son of John (Jack) M who came to Texas from KY around 1849 or 1850 some say 1846. John (Jack) was the son of Alexander & Rachel (Boone) Merrifield. Alexander being the youngest son of Samuel (l) & Mary from England."
