Ranny Malson's database lists no Rachel for Jessie Jackson Malson & wife, Isabell McCormick, but an Ella born 1888. The above recorded Rachel b. Mar 1888 has a middle initial of "E" and possibly she is Ella.
Also, Ranny has a daughter, Levina, in his database but this child is not present in the above census where 10 children are recorded as born and surviving. I pondered whether or not the above Rachel E. and Levina could be one and the same but it seems unlikely if I trust Ranny's database info on their spouses.
However, his database also has this Levina marrying John Steiner. I have found an Opal, age 28, in a 1930 census and husband, John, age 30 with 3 children, one of which is Marie (which gels with Ranny's info). Also recorded in this 1930 census are brothers-in-law (of head of household) John T. Malson and George D. Malson. The obvious conclusion to draw is that they are this Opal's brothers.
It now seems likely that this Opal was born after this 1900 census.
William Marshall Malson, grandson of Jesse Jackson Malson, lists Opal with Levina in parenthesis in his database.
I think possibly Ranny has the daughters names and years of birth confused or else data was entered incorrectly.

I received first an email and then a copy of the birth certificate for Naomi Pearl Selmon, mother, Rachel Elinore Malson and father, Charles Selmon.

Still cannot determine where Opal (Levina) Malson fits with this family. There is no Opal in this census, however, there is daughter Minnie, age 6 which places her year of birth about 1904. Possibly Opal's age in the 1930 census is incorrect but still, she would've had to have been born after 1910.
NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Dec 2004]
Belle is most likely Jesse's second wife, Virginia Belle Selman. It is not known who the Selman is that daughter, Ella, married and had 2 children with. They are not in any database that I've found.
Do not know where Ernest's twin, Everett is for this census.
Daughter, Rosa Eva Malson Headley, is living with her husband and 2 children 5 houses away, though she is recorded as "Eva R."

I have been contacted by the granddaughter of Opal Malson who has confirmed that she is the daughter of Jesse Jackson Malson and also confirmed the Opal Malson in the above-mentioned 1930 census is her grandmother, mother, aunt and uncle. Opal's age in that census appears to have been correct.
FURTHER NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2005]
I have found Opal M. Malson in a 1910 census for Norton Twp., Summit Co., OH. She is living with brother, William James or James William Malson and his wife. See notes of William or James W. Malson for details.

I believe this to be one of Jesse Jackson Malson's sons, James. He is the correct age given the other census he is found in with father. Difficult to read the wife's first name, however, son Everett, may have been named after brother, Everett. Daughter's name was also difficult to read and looked to be "Lois."
According to Ranny Simmons' database, his name was William and he married "? Nelson" and lived in Greenville, PA. The above wife was recorded as born in Pennsylvania.
NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2005]
In a conversation with my cousin, Frances Curley Schroeder (Opal Malson's granddaughter), she referred to his as William, however, in all of the censuses I have found, he is consistently recorded as James or James W. Malson.
FURTHER NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
I have contacted Mary Summers about the possibility of James Malson's son, Everett, actually being the son of his sister, Rachel E. Selmon.

It seems likely that son Wilber, age 10, is John W. in the 1910 census who was 4 months old and would've been 10 in 1920. Ranny Simmons' database has both a John W. Headley and a Wilbert Headley and I am wondering if they are actually the same person.
There is no Mabel, Blandis or Audrey in Ranny's database either. Possibly Mabel, age 8, or Blandis, age 6, is Ranny's Lulu Headley born in 1914.
Need to find the 1930 census to help shed some light on these children.

Everett possibly went by the name Everitt M. Selmon, died at age 66, year unknown.
If so, had sons Ronald and James Malson both of Pennsylvania. Daughters Lynn, Patricia and Donna.
Listed brothers Walker Selmon, sisters Nioma, Violet and Lois.
NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Dec 2004]
None of the children's names above are recorded in the 1920 or 1930 censuses below. From Ranny's note, it seems that those names were speculation based on whether or not Everett went by the Selmon surname. Begs the question, why would he have gone by that surname.
His age is off by about 3 years in the below censuses but that is within an acceptable range.
FURTHER NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
Based upon an email I received from Mary Summers, granddaughter of Everett Malson's sister, Rachel Elizabeth Malson, I think children, Walker, Nioma and Violet above attributed to this Everett may have actually been Rachel Elizabeth's children.
Rachel Elizabeth married Charles Selmon and had a son Walter, and daughters Viola and Naomi which could've been confused with the above Walker, Nioma and Violet.
Rachel Elizabeth also had a son Everitt Selmon and possibly this is where the confusion occurred. William Marshall Malson has in his database that Everett Malson possibly went by the name Everitt M. Selmon and died at age 66. Rachel's son, Everitt Selmon, was born in 1914 and died in 1980 when he would've been 66 years old.
I will check with Mary Summers to see if her uncle Everitt had sons named Ronald and James, and daughters Lynn, Patricia and Donna.
FURTHER NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
I received a copy of Everitt M. Selmon's obituary from his niece, Mary Margaret Summers, which confirms the above information regarding siblings and children were not for this Everett G. Malson.

NOTE TO CONFLICTS: [LeAnn McRoberts, Jan 2005]

NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Dec 2004]
I consider this as only a "possible" 1880 census for Eliza D. Malson, daughter of James Malson. She is residing with George Fetty, his wife and another servant.
Her recorded age of 23 is in conflict with her 1853 year of birth which would've made her 27 years of age.
She is residing in Union District, Tyler Co., WV and this is where she also resided in the 1910 census as did her sister, Frances, in 1900.
It is also possible that the Eliza Malson in this census is my great-grand aunt, Eliza A. Malson who was born in 1857 and would've been 23 in 1880. What throws this speculation into repute is that Harriet Jane Malson, (wife of my 1st cousin, John Rodgers Malson) has that Eliza A. Malson married a John Van Horn in 1879.

GIVEN NAME: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
Based on information received from Jean Wilson Moore (widow of Olin C. Moore, son of Myrtle Malson and Sampson Moore and grandson of William Harrison Malson), William Harrison's wife's name was Wilma Jane not Willene Jane as in Ranny Simmons' database. In the 1900 census, her name does appear to be "Willene", but in the 1910 she is recorded and indexed as Wilma. On closer inspection, in the 1920 census, the name could be either Wilma or Willene. Furthermore, several of her children named their daughters Wilma and not Willene.
Jean credits Barbara Arkens for the info on Wilma's birthplace.

NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
Delbert Grogg has been incorrectly recorded as "Elbert." Calvin and Stella are recorded as the same age which is in conflict with databases of Ranny Simmons and Jean Moore.M ii CLARENCE RAY MALSON 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 was born on 23 Sep 1886. He died in 1948 in Richie Co., WV. He was buried in Walker Cemetery, Richie Co., WV.
SPOUSE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2005]
Ranny Simmons' database has Clarence married to Stella Spiker. Database of Jean Moore has that Clarence married Stella Spiker 14 Oct 1913 in Wood Co., WV.
NOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Dec 2004]
In the 1920 census, Clarence is recorded as married but wife, Stella, is not recorded in the household. In the 1930 census, Clarence is recorded as "single," so I am presuming they divorced.
BIRTH-YEAR-CONFLICT: [LeAnn McRoberts, Apr 2005]
Jean Moore's database has Clarence's year of birth as 1882. However, this is in conflict with 4 censuses. The 1900 census recorded his birth year as 1886 and age 13, in 1910 census his recorded age was 23, in 1920 it was 33 and 1930 it was 43.

=====================CENSUS: [Source - Ancestry.com - provided by LeAnn McRoberts, Feb 2004]
1790 - Rapho Township, Lancaster Co., PA
Both a James Malson and John Malson are recorded in this census. For James under the column "All Other Free Persons" is the number 8, indicating eight persons in that household.
For John Malson under the same column is the number 2 with 1 recorded under Free White Persons Including Family, indicating 3 persons in that household.
Both of these men were born prior to Daniel Malson's sons, James and John. It's possible that this James and John are father and son or brothers of Daniel.
Also, this census indicates that there were 8 other persons living with James that could've been his family and may have included siblings. Warrants further investigation.
OBSERVATION: [By LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2004]
I have come across 2 censuses: 1 for 1860 in Gentry Co., MO which has a James (age 69) and a Francisca Malson, and an 1870 in Gentry Co., MO for the same James (now age 79) and Francisca Malson. This James Malsons birthplace is recorded as Pennsylvania and these censuses place his year of birth at 1791. Could he have been the son of this James and a brother of Daniel? Could he have been the father of the mysterious second George Malson?
The 1790 census recorded 8 persons in the household of James Malson and since there is no further information it is next to impossible to know how and if these Malsons are related.
====================POSSIBLE BROTHER OR SON: [LeAnn McRoberts, May 2004]
I have come across a record for a PRIVATE JOHN MALSON on the "Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812." He was listed in the following:
Roll of Capt. John S. Wallace's Company
(Probably from Hamilton Co.)
Served from August 23, until September 4, 1812It is possible this John Malson is the same John Malson in the above 1790 census. He could not be John Malson, the son of Daniel Malson, who was born 14 July 1812.
Verification of his connection to our line is warranted.
NOTE TO OBSERVATION ABOVE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Feb 2005]
I was contacted by a descendant (Jr. Hathaway) of the above James Malson of Gentry Co., MO. We are now looking into the possibility that our 2 Malson lines are connected by way of that James Malson having been a son of our James and a sibling of Daniel Malson.

1830 - UNKNOWN TOWNSHIP, POCAHONTAS CO., VA
George Malson is indexed after Daniel Malson.
George Malson is indexed with 1 male age 30 to 40 (most likely George himself as his 1796 birth year would've made him 34), 1 female under 5, 1 female 20 to 30.
NOTES TO 1830 CENSUS: [LeAnn McRoberts, Feb 2004]
1. George Malson's daughter, Mary Christine Malson, was b: in 1831, therefore the female under the age of 5 must've been a female child that did not survive.
2. Female indexeded age 20 to 30 would be his wife, Elizabeth Courtney.
3. Databases give 2 possible years of birth for Elizabeth Courtney, 1797 and 1807. If b: in 1797, she would've been 33 in 1830, however, if b: in 1807, she would've 23 making her fall within the 20 to 30 age range.

I have recently found this 1860 census for George Maulson<sic> in Perry Twp., Monroe Co., OH that I believe to be my 3rd great-grandfather and not the George Malson is the subsequent 1860 census for Benton Twp., Monroe Co., OH.
George's age is also corroborated by the 1850 census above.

MAULSON, GEORGE, age 64, occ: farmer, b: PA
_______, Rachel, age 40, b: OHNOTE: [LeAnn McRoberts, Dec 2004]
I believe the George Malson in the above-census to be my 3rd great-grandfather given his age of 64 placing his year of birth to be 1796 which matches the information collected by Harriet Jane Malson and Ludella Pittman Ebinger.
Also, in the 1860 census in Perry Twp., Monroe Co., OH are George's son, Levi Jackson Malson and Andrew Courtney Malson, though the surname has been indexed as "Maulson."
I believe this further confirms that the George Malson in Benton Twp., Monroe Co., OH below IS NOT my 3rd great-grandfather but another George Malson altogether. The age discrepancy of 26 years is too great.
Moreover, databases that have attributed the wife and children in the below census to my 3rd great-grandfather I not believe are his either.

There is a George Malson with a birth year of 1821, the same George Malson who enrolled with the Ohio Infantry at age 41 two years after the 1860 census. It would seem unlikely these 2 men are one and the same.
The question remains who this other George Malson is.
Further, Malson researcher, Ranny Simmons', database has George married to a "Rachel (Thrachel)" prior to Elizabeth Courtney. It is certainly within the realm of possibility that George may have had a son with Rachel whom he named George. This seems to have been derived from a WFT database. (SEE NOTE TO SPOUSE #1 ABOVE.)
OBSERVATION: [LeAnn McRoberts, Mar 2004]
On the Family Search.org website, there is pedigree file for a George Malson, born 1826 to a James and Francisca Malson. However, no further information or source is given. They also show up in an 1860 and 1870 census for Gentry Co., MO. [See notes for grandfather, James Malson, for further observations on James and Francisca Malson.]
FURTHER NOTE TO OBSERVATION: [LeAnn McRoberts, Feb 2005]
I have been contacted by a descendent (Jr Hathaway) of the above-mentioned James & Francisca Malson. Mr. Hathaway informed me that his George Malson (the one confused with our George Malson) was a twin and that twins seem to run in his line. Though our George Malson had no twin that we know of, twins run consistently throughout our Malson line as well.
Also, Mr. Hathaway also has a 2nd great-grandfather named William Harrison Malson, born 1832 who was killed in the Civil War. We also have a William Harrison Malson, born 1855, who is the nephew of our George Malson.
Mr. Hathway and I are now persuing the possilbility that our 2 Malson lines are related, possiblity through unknown siblings of Daniel Malson.
================LAND PATENTS: [Source - U.S. GenWeb Archives, LeAnn McRoberts, Dec. 2003]
Listed on the Ohio River Survey for the Bureau of Land Management for Marietta Township, Monroe Co., sign date November 1, 1846. George owned a plot of 40.14 acres. This land is next to a plot owned by son, John Malson.
CONFLICT COMMENT: [LeAnn McRoberts, Feb 2004]
While I initially thought George Malson was John's father (referenced above), it is unlikely since John Alex Malson was born in 1835 & would've been only 11 years old. More likely this John Malson is George's brother.

Will Book #1, Page 181
GEORGE MALSON of Jackson Township in ill health, but of sound mind, I am to be buried with as little expense or ostentation by my executor hereafter named. I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Rachel (Thrachel) my house and lot 1 ½ acres, more or less, my household furniture and property, to my son, John B. Malson - $1.00; to Leroy J. Malson $1.00; to Mary C. Malson $1.00; to Barbara A. Malson $1.00; Eliza S. Malson $1.00; to be paid within one month after my decease. George R. Bucheit, executors. 3 June, 1872 - probated July 16, 1872.
On the last day of July, 1872, an instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of George Malson, late of Jackson Township, was produced in open court for probate.
MISTAKES: [LeAnn McRoberts, Sep 2005]
Mistakes made either by whomever actually wrote the will or those that transcribed it: John B. Malson should have been John Alex Malson and Leroy J. would have been Levy Jackson, Eliza S. should have been Eliza J (for Jane).
