Though
it is almost certain our Malson ancestors came from England,
it is doubtful the name originated in the British Isles. While the
Malson name is prevalent in south Wales and in the western counties
of England bordering Wales, it is found in Scandanavia as well
and possibly came over to England with Viking invaders in the 8th
century A.D.The
Malson name has been found in England dating as far back as 1544
in the "Gloucestershire Probate Records." An Index
of Wills for 1544-1545 records "John Malson - Rodley
in Westbury 1544." Whether or not this particular Malson
has any connection to our bloodline I do not know, but it is certainly
an avenue worth pursuing.When
our Malson ancestors first arrived in America is not yet known but
early records place them in Pennsylvania from 1770 onward.
While it is still speculation that James Malson is the progenitor
of our line, there seems to be circumstantial evidence to support
this found in a Genealogy.com website database in the form of
a Birth/Baptismal record for Southeastern Pennsylvania:
"Daniel Malson born to James Malson and Mrs. Elisabeth
Malson
of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania"
More
research needs to be done to verify and confirm that these are indeed
my 4th and 5th great-grandparents.
