By 1880, my 2nd great-grandfather, John Alex Malson, had divorced my great-great
grandmother, Elizabeth H. Merrifield, and married Julia Ann Boyd Carter. Julia had 3
daughtersm, Martha, Alice and Gertrude, from a previous marriage, however, in this
census her daughters are recorded with the Malson surname.

John Alex had a son with Julia whom he named Levi Jackson undoubtedly after his
brother. This is the family recorded in this census. Though young Levi's age is recorded
as 4 years old, he was actually around 1 year old. Amusingly, this same census take has
recorded baby Levi as "married".

Three years later, John Alex and Julia had another son, Harry Ackerson Malson.
