Frederick Winfred Roberts
One
of Dad's passions was cars and he even raced stock cars in
Michigan. His cars were always number 44.
When
I was very young, sometimes he'd take me with him to the
racetrack. He also took me with him when he'd go to junkyards looking
for used parts for his cars.
Dad
and Shasta

One
of his prized possessions was a 1936 Chevrolet Coupe that
he fixed up. He named it "Shasta" because, as he put it,
"s'hasta have gas, s'hasta have oil, s'hasta have water..."
He was his own mechanic and enjoyed riding motorcycles as well.
Me
and Jack

Dad
loved animals and often came home with some stray dog that he
had found. An affectionate, demonstrative person with a gregarious,
playful nature, Dad had the gift of gab. He could talk
to anyone and loved to tell jokes as well as play practical
jokes on the unsuspecting -- usually me!
